About

My preferred medium is oil on canvas or wood. I have recently gained an interest in mosaics and am currently working on my first 3-dimensional mosaic sculpture. I am seeking out a gallery or non-gallery settings for exhibition possibilities. Also considering illustrating self published works. If you’re interested, please contact me at laurie.a.kane@gmail.com.

For children’s illustrations,  I work in oils, watercolor/gouache, colored pencil, graphite, pastels, and pen and ink. I am interested in illustrating for children of all ages from pre-K to young adult. I’d be very interested in illustrating a young person’s novel for middle graders – something new, different, interesting, and quirky. Children of this age are bombarded daily with computer generated images so, it would be nice if they were exposed to fine art images just as often. Computers are an awesome tool, but people forget that the true artist leaves a little bit of their DNA in everything that they create. That’s the difference.

I would like to illustrate children’s picture books with illustrations that are detailed, colorful, and full of little stories all on their own. I would also love to illustrate a book with highly detailed illustrations executed solely in graphite (black and gray tones).

I am a former member of the SCBWI and I received one of the two honorable mentions in the Don Freeman Memorial Grant-In-Aid competition in 2003.

One of the children’s images was featured several times on the CBS News Sunday Morning with Charles Osgood in 2007-2008.
